The Road Haulage Association will hold a briefing conference on the use of methane (natural gas and bio-methane) in HGV operation, following the Autumn Statement on December 5.

“The announcement of the Chancellor’s intention to hold the duty differential between diesel and methane until 2024 (with a review in 2018) is likely to have a significant impact on the decision-making processes of many hauliers and on their cost base. We know from member surveys that it will create new interest in the gas option.

“It is important that members are aware of the funding, technical, commercial and political issues surrounding gas that affect their businesses and the briefing conference will address these issues,” said RHA director of policy Jack Semple.

“Our intention is to hold this briefing conference early in the New Year with the participation of leading suppliers relevant to methane-powered HGVs. From the truck side, Daf, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and dual fuel technology supplier Hardstaff Group have already confirmed their participation. The location will be in the Midlands.

The conference will be part of a broader information programme for members.
