WATCH: NHS workers bemoan ‘huge pressures’ on job in new Labour party broadcast

2 min read

NHS workers tell of seeing patients die from long ambulance waits and staff being forced to rely on foodbanks in Labour's latest party political broadcast.

The film shows frontline staff speaking “in their own words” about the trial of juggling jobs while others felt they had to quit their work altogether amid a “crisis” in the health service.

Labour say the video, televised this evening and which features original music by rapper Maverick Sabre and the National Health Singers, allows for an “honest portrayal of life in the NHS”.

One junior doctor, Fiona, wonders if she could save more lives if she “hadn't been doing the job of two people,” while Judy, a hospital cook, branded the need for colleagues to rely on foodbanks “shameful”.

Katie, a nurse, speaks about having to leave the NHS, while colleague Danielle emotionally asks “is this really worth it? Because this is… this is what I love but it's... it's not anymore and that's really hard to say and I don't want to leave.”

Elsewhere health visitor Anthony and student nurse Rhiannon hit out at the end of the student nurse bursary and the subsequent £40,000 of debt graduates will inherit.

Meanwhile Bob, a GP, says he fears the health service is being deliberately run down so it can be privatised, while Dave, a paramedic, who says he’s “had people die waiting for an ambulance” believes Jeremy Corbyn “genuinely wants to help” him.
