An EBLEX-backed butchery duo sharpened their skills to take the top honour at the prestigious European Butchery competition last weekend.

Team England scooped the award - organised by the Rhône branch of the Butchers’ Federation- during the world hospitality and food service event Sirha in Lyon, France.

The victory at the competition was a first for Team England, who won the title with a presentation of various cuts including veal rack, beef rib and lamb shoulder.

The team comprised of Michael Perkins and Martin Crombie, from Aubrey Allen in Warwickshire, faced stiff competition against teams from Belgium and France.

Rémi Fourrier, EBLEX’s export manager for France, said:

“This is another success story following the victory of English young shepherds at the World Young Shepherds’ competition. Now, Team England has received official recognition from the French independent butchers’ organisation for their expertise in butchery. It is a massive boost for the butchery sector in England and goes to show with hard work, skill and perseverance anything is possible.”

The European Butchery competition is just one of a number of initiatives backed by EBLEX to support butchers and the industry, for more information visit the EBLEX Trade website.
