Quality Standard Mark (QSM) butchers using AHDB Beef and Lambs spring point-of-sale (POS) kit have reported an uplift in average sales of beef brisket and lamb shoulder of 20 per cent.

The ‘Spring Specials’ POS kit has been designed to showcase and help market the two featured primals. These have experienced a growth in popularity with consumers, who have been inspired by the American styled pulled meats, increasingly featured on foodservice menus.

A survey undertaken to measure the effectiveness of the kits found they had delivered profitable returns to registered users, who on average saw a sales increase of 20 per cent on lamb shoulder and beef brisket.

Brindon Addy, a QSM butcher from Yorkshire and former Q Guild chairman, said: “We’ve found the QSM Spring Specials POS kit very effective in our shop. It helped inspire customers to try something different with the beef brisket and lamb shoulder, picking up on the current trend for pulled meats.

“Customers benefit from having cooking guidelines on the recipe leaflets and the cabinet cards helped to clearly identify QSM product. It has worked very well for us and I’m pleased to say that we have experienced an uplift in sales as a result.”

Michael Richardson, AHDB Beef and Lamb’s independent retail sector manager, said: “The Spring Specials kit brings benefits to both butchers and customers. The kit increases the available product range to suit a wider variety of shoppers by tapping into seasonal and new consumer trends, whilst raising awareness of the opportunities that make the best use and add value to the whole carcase.

“The summer POS kit will focus on cuts suited for summertime events and meal occasions, in particular those that would be ideal for the barbecue and gourmet burgers.”

Look out for the summer kits which will be sent out at the end of June. If you haven’t already registered to receive POS kits this year, then please call 0845 491 8787*.
