Queen’s Speech: Scrap air passenger duty
British Air Transport Association
Ahead of the Queen’s Speech, the British Air Transport Association sets out what it would like the Government to do in the coming session of Parliament.
“My Government will … scrap the pernicious tax on flying known as Air Passenger Duty.”
“APD is the highest tax on flying in the world,” says Simon Buck,
BATA’s chief executive.
“Not only does it make flying more expensive for UK citizens, it also impacts on foreign tourists and business people visiting the UK.
“A recent report by PWC found that scrapping the tax would benefit the UK economy by at least £16 billion over the next three years and create 60,000 new jobs.
“The Chancellor is missing a golden opportunity to help kick start the economy by continuing to increase such a sky-high tax that suppresses economic activity.”
