'We have already established an excellent working relationship with the Transport Secretary and have stressed the vital role an efficient road network plays in delivering the UK's economy; it is extremely encouraging to know that our voice had been heard,' says RHA Chief Executive Richard Burnett.

Today's reports that an extra £1.3bn is to be spent on improving Britain's road network will come as good news to all road users but in particular to the UK's road freight industry.
The formal announcement is to be made by Chancellor Philip Hammond on 23 November in his first Autumn Statement.

Commenting, RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: "The roads are the transport operator's place of work. Congestion costs the haulage industry and the wider economy billions of pounds each year. The news that the Treasury is determined to cut congestion comes as welcome news indeed.

"We have already established an excellent working relationship with the Transport Secretary and have stressed the vital role an efficient road network plays in delivering the UK's economy; it is extremely encouraging to know that our voice had been heard.

"And if, as predicted, we are to see a further 2 pence per litre fuel duty freeze, then for many road freight operators the festive season will certainly look less bleak," concluded Richard Burnett.
