UKAEG is leading the charge for UK advertising at SXSW and wants to hear from yo

South by Southwest (SXSW) is one of the leading events globally for the creative industries. For the past 35 years SXSW has taken place in Austin, Texas but is entirely online for the first time in 2021.

The virtual event will run from March 16-20 and UK advertising is planning its activity at a number of sessions at the event.

In parallel with activity at SXSW, and in a first for the group, the UK Advertising Exports Group (UKAEG) – which aims to further position the UK as the global hub for advertising – will be curating the ‘UK Advertising is Made Global’ virtual event to be held as part of its Made Global campaign created by adam&eveDDB and The Mill.

The event will be free to attend for thinkers, makers, and investors across key markets to meet and hear from leading UK experts. UKAEG members with an interest in exporting to the US market will have the opportunity to network and showcase their creativity, expertise and tech.

UKAEG wants to hear from advertising and marketing services companies who wish to take part in the event. UKAEG is now inviting submissions from businesses wishing to take part in the event. Submit your idea before January 29th by emailing Aisling Conlon, UKAEG Marketing Manager. Submissions should include title, suggested speakers and a description of 500 words max. Recordings will take place in February 2021.

SXSW has announced seven Conference themes for 2021:

1. A New Urgency  2. Challenging Tech’s Path Forward 3. Cultural Resilience in the Arts  4. The Rebirth of Business 5. Transforming the Entertainment Landscape 6. Connection in Disconnection  7. An Unchartered Future.

You can find out more about each of the themes here.

Janet Hull, Chair UKAEG and IPA Marketing Strategy Director, commented:

“Everything is changing for South by Southwest 2021 and so is the UKAEG game plan for how to best support our UK companies and market UK Advertising. At SXSW, CMOs and their advisers come to meet new people, understand new trends and new innovations. SXSW is an excellent platform for expanding your network, securing new clients, and learning more about the US market.”

Stephen Woodford, Chief Executive, Advertising Association, commented:

“As the global economy recovers in 2021 and the UK builds on its strong global links and new EU relationship, it’s the perfect time to showcase to an international audience how UK advertising is made global, celebrating the UK’s creativity, technology, diversity and expertise. The UK Advertising industry is known as an innovator in terms of media channels, business models and technology use. This makes the UK a true gateway to the wider world for any firm seeking to go global and to reach a worldwide consumer. The demand for British advertising services in markets like the US is real and significant.”

Aisling Conlon, UKAEG Marketing Manager commented:

“This is a call to arms to the industry to get involved and put forward submissions for consideration on the Made Global programme. We are looking for fully-proofed, diverse, focused and forward-thinking talks, workshops and case studies that emphasise UK creativity and innovation. We want to hear all ideas.”
