Ed Miliband among leading Labour moderates speaking at Momentum festival

Ed Miliband among leading Labour moderates speaking at Momentum festival
2 min read

Former Labour leader Ed Miliband will be among a number of Labour moderates to take part in a special festival organised by pro-Jeremy Corbyn group Momentum.

For the second year running, The World Transformed will run in parallel to the Labour party conference, which takes place in Brighton later this month.

'A Conversation With Ed Miliband' will take place on 24 September and publicity for the event says: “From minister for climate change to leader of the Labour party, from pushing through the Collins reforms to #Milifandom, few politicians have had a more interesting career than Ed Miliband. What have these experiences taught Ed about politics? How does he look back on his time as Labour leader and what does he think of Labour now? And, thinking big, what are the big challenges for progressives over the next few years?”

Mr Miliband's attendance at the event is significant as he was among the senior Labour figures who called on Mr Corbyn to quit as party leader last summer.

Other Labour party moderates who will speak at the four-day festival are Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth and Lisa Nandy, who ran Owen Smith's campaign when he challenged Mr Corbyn for the leadership.

They will be joined by pro-Corbyn MPs, including Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, Diane Abbott, Clive Lewis, Cat Smith, Richard Burgon and Laura Pidcock.

Anastasia Palikeras, who is organising the event, said: “This year’s World Transformed programme will have even more Labour MPs alongside internationally acclaimed writers, artists, campaigners and activists, reflecting the growing diversity and strength of our movement. For us the key focus is on building on the success of Labour’s general election campaign and preparing for the challenges that lie ahead by discussing the ideas that will transform our world.”
