Former Tory Cabinet Minister Nadine Dorries Defects To Reform

1 min read

Former Conservative Cabinet minister Nadine Dorries has defected to Reform UK.

Writing in The Daily Mail on Thursday, Dorries said: "The Tory Party is dead. Its members now need to think the unthinkable and look to the future."

Dorries, a former culture secretary who was a major ally of former Conservative prime minister Boris Johnson, has joined Nigel Farage's party on the eve of its conference in Birmingham.

She is the latest former Tory to join Reform UK, following former Cabinet ministers Jake Berry and David Jones.

“The time for action is now and I believe that the only politician who has the answers, the knowledge and the will to deliver is Nigel Farage. Nigel and I will never agree about everything. Neither of us are political robots," she wrote.

Reform has surged in the opinion polls since winning five seats at last year's general election, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer describing Farage as the actual opposition leader.

The Tories, meanwhile, have struggled to recover from their heavy defeat to Labour last year, with leader Kemi Badenoch under pressure to show she can turn her party around.
