Voters head to the polls for local elections in England – including London – Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland on Thursday May 5.
The vote, which has been dominated by questions about the cost-of-living crisis and Number 10 “partygate” scandal, promises to be a key mid-term gauge of support for Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative government. But it will also be a crucial test of whether opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer can convert recent opinion poll gains into votes.
